36 BNP leaders including Rajib-Jahir jailed

Thirty-six leaders and activists of opposition BNP including Swecchasebak Dal central general secretary Rajib Ahsan and south president Jahir Uddin Tuhin have been jailed on different terms in two seperate cases filed with Ramna Police Station.

Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court delivered the judgement on Tuesday.

However, all the 23 accused in another case filed with Sutrapur Police Station were acquitted as the charges against could not be proved.

The case was filed with Ramna Police Station in September 2011. Later, police submitted the chargesheet after investigation.

BNP's 20 leaders jailed for 2 years

Twenty leaders and activists of opposition BNP have been jailed for two years under two separate sections in a sabotage case filed over 12 years ago at Ramna Police Station in 2011.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin pronounced the judgement on Tuesday.

The convicts have been fined Tk 2,000 each, in default, they will have to serve two months more in jail.

The case was filed with Ramna Police Station in September 2011. Later, police submitted the chargesheet after investigation.
