Eleven people including the Dhaka University (DU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) president Khorshed Alam Sohel and central Krishak Dal joint convener Mehedi Hasan Polash, 43, have been arrested by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The DB claimed that they seized 50,000 leaflets, and equipment for making bombs, live bombs and gun powder which were scheduled to be used in sabotage.
The leaders of JCD, the student wing of BNP, were arrested after conducting raids at different places in the capital on Wednesday (December 27) night. DB's additional commissioner Mohammad Harun-ar-Rashid confirmed it.
He said the arrested persons at the directives of several senior BNP leaders resorted to sabotage and distributed leaflets to foil the election.
Harun-ar-Rashid said they were arrested on charge of attempts to "foil the election."

"After the arrest of DU JCD president Khorshed Alam Sohel and Krishak Dal joint convener Mehedi Hasan Polash, a drive was conducted at Prime Printers at Kataban in the capital according to their information and more than 50,000 leaflets were seized from there. Nine more people were arrested from there on Wednesday night," he said.
The DB chief further said, "Under preliminary questioning, the arrested persons said they stockpiled leaflets and gun powder for committing sabotage acts at the directives of central leaders. More than 200 Molotov cocktails (home made bombs) could be made with this gunpowder."
"Voters were being pursued not to go to the polling centres to cast their ballots through the leaflets. They have done anti-state, anti-constitutional, and anti-country activities. None will be spared if they make any attempt to commit sabotage," he said.
