20,773 local observers get EC’s permission to monitor polls

The Election Commission on Thursday gave approval to 20,773 local observers from 84 organisations to monitor the national election on January 7.

Asadul Haque, assistant director (public relation) of the commission, acknowledging the matter said some 517 local observers of 40 registered organisations will monitor the polls centrally.

Besides, 20,256 observers from rest of the local organisations have taken approval from returning officers across the country at the field level.

According to the EC sources, the observers who took approval centrally can also monitor polling in constituencies of their choosing across the country but those who have taken approval from returning officers can only monitor polling in the districts for which they have taken approval.
