Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been deployed across the country alongside other law enforcement forces as part of the security plan to ensure holding a free, fair and peaceful national election slated for January 7.
RAB personnel will perform duties in all parliamentary constituencies as mobile and striking forces from Friday, December 29 to January 10 as per the Election Commission's (EC) decision, said RAB's Legal and Media Wing director Commander Khondker Al Moin on Friday (December 29).
He said, if necessary, helicopters and dog squads will be deployed to maintain law and order.
RAB will discharge the following duties to maintain law and order across the country:
1. RAB personnel will play roles in maintaining peace and order in polling stations and counting of votes.
2. In continuation of that, at least two patrol teams will be deployed in each seat for electoral duties while two patrol teams will be kept as reserve striking force in each battalion.
3. Fifteen patrol teams will be ready as central reserve at RAB headquarters while 25 temporary camps will be set up across the country. More than 700 patrol teams of RAB will be deployed for maintaining law and order across the country including 50 patrol teams which will remain standby for other deployment.
4. Information will be collected through intelligence sources. RAB's own sweeping and bomb disposal units will remain standby. Besides, helicopters and dog squads will be deployed for maintaining law and order.
5. RAB patrol teams from different battalions will remain standby for deployment in the constituencies which are considered risky/important.
6. Special forces of RAB Forces Headquarters will remain standby to control special situations.
7. Bomb disposal units of RAB Headquarters will remain standby for the deployment in seven zones.
8. Ten teams of RAB's dog squads will remain standby at the RAB Headquarters. Besides, searches at checkposts in different parts of the country will be strengthened.
