Why our politicians fall short of their pledges made before polls?

Generally, a national election is held every five years to give the chance to the people of Bangladesh to elect the right person as a representative of their certain election area as well as to form a government. Our elected parliament member leads on behalf of the people of the area. The pre-election scenario tells many things that we the ordinary people compare the scenario to the post-election activities after winning the election.

This comparison ultimately shows their motive of seeking a vote from the people of their constituencies. The scenario is easily assumable and has been experienced by the voter for a long time in the history of Bangladeshi politics and peoples representative elections.

The members of parliament are elected by the citizens of this country as their representatives to form the rules and regulations for the welfare of the nation of Bangladesh. They coordinate the allocation of the states resources among all the countrys people.

We choose the lawmakers through the election process here and the right to choose them is only for the countrys citizens. We are directly or indirectly involved in this law-making process. This lawmakers contribution determined our national progress with quality. The members of parliament lead the nation in every dimension.

Unfortunately, we are facing the harsh reality of the elected members of parliaments contribution as they are committed to doing after the election. The election candidates show their dual character before the election and after the election. Before the election, they become pious and try to prove themselves honest and well-wishers of the people. They beg the people going door to door to get the chance to serve them being the representatives of the people. They spend money for election campaigns and they spend money for the common people who are not aware of the actual character of the candidates.

The candidate assured the ordinary people that after being a parliament member he will do the infrastructural development, and will do advanced road and transport systems. The candidate also says that he will hear and heal all the miseries. They became so close to the poor people and they convinced them to vote through an election which is supposed to be held soon.

The election candidate persuades the people to vote for him. The Bengalis are very emotional, they become very much convinced easily so the candidate knows how easy it is to convince them. But after winning the election the election winner becomes powerful and ignores the activities mentioned above for which they are responsible.

The elected person forgets those oaths and their responsibility to the people of certain areas. When they become parliament members or the representatives of their people, they have the advantage of availing power. They use government opportunities for their own business. They forget those who make them elected in the election who make them the representatives as well as parliament members.

Through winning the election, the person gets the power to do all activities that may be good or bad. Most of the representatives forget their promise given to the people before the election. Most dishonest people do injustice, evil acts, abuse of power, and many more things for their interests. From the experience, we have witnessed, they become more wealthy after becoming a member of parliament, and nepotism creates injustice and inequality in the case of getting the rights as a citizen of the country.

Here we, the countrys common people, are responsible for the elected persons act because of electing him by voting in an election and we can avoid this responsibility. We know the person who would be the better election candidate because he or she was in our territory. Its a matter of sorrow that we prefer a candidate who is wealthy, and who has manpower in the political field without judging their honesty, moral values, education, and past activities. This is one of the major reasons for choosing an inappropriate candidate in the election.


However, all the politicians are not the same as mentioned before. Several peoples representatives care about their people and keep their promises given before the elections. They do their best for the welfare of the citizens, ignoring their benefits. This type of politicians should be the idol of all of us.

The promise is created according to the aspiration of the people. If the elected persons keep their promise given before the elections, the demand of the people will be fulfilled. Then the people will consider reelecting the candidate for future elections. In this way, we should properly use our voting rights and elect the person who keeps their talks and promises to the people and devote themselves to the welfare of not only the ordinary people of their area but also all the countrymen. The representative who has been elected by the people should do all the things for the people.
