NALITABARI, SHERPUR, Jan 3: A woman, who was burnt over land dispute in Nalitabari Upazila of the district, died at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka recently.
The deceased was identified as Anjuman Ara Khatun, 55, wife of late Abul Kashem, a resident of Bagichapur Village under Rupnarayankura Union of the upazila.
Police and local sources said, Anjuman Ara and her daughter Aklima had a dispute with her brother-in-law Gias Uddin, 55, over land after the death of her husband.
Following this, an altercation took place in between them on December 25.
As a sequel to it, Gias Uddins wife Ambia Khatun, 50, and his daughter-in-law Maleka, 25, poured kerosene on Anjuman Ara and set fire on her body.
Hearing her scream, locals rushed in and rescued critically burnt Anjuman Ara. They then took her to Nalitabari Upazila Health Complex first, and later, shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Following the further deterioration of her condition, Anjuman Ara was then again shifted to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka, where she died on Friday last while undergoing treatment.
The deceaseds daughter Aklima Khatun, being the plaintiff, lodged a murder case with Nalitabari Police Station (PS) on Sunday accusing Gias Uddin, Ambia and Maleka.
Officer-in-Charge of Nalitabari PS Monirul Alam Bhuiyan confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard and the law enforcers are trying to arrest the accused.
