Rakib Hossain, a Jatiya Party candidate for Lakshmipur-3, has stepped aside from the election race citing absence of fair environment.

Rakib made this announcement at a press conference at his election office in the Jhumur area of the district on Thursday afternoon.

At this time, he alleged that a "farce election" is being held across the country. The common people of Lakshmipur are away from the elections, only a few privileged people are involved.

He also claimed that influential people are using huge amounts of black money to attract the voters and his posters have been torn down.

"Complaints were made to the returning officer about these issues but no action was taken. So, I have withdrawn from the election on the instructions of the centre due to the lack of a fair environment," he added.

Among others, Mohiuddin Khokon, organising secretary of District Jatiya Party, Salahuddin Emran, literary affairs secretary, Municipal Jatiya Party Assistant General Secretary Md Salah Uddin Khokon were present.
