Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed restrictions on the movement of taxicabs, pickups, microbuses, trucks, lorries in Dhaka metropolitan area from 12am on Saturday (January 6) to midnight on Sunday (January 7) ahead of the national election.
Besides, a ban has also been imposed on the movement of motorcycles from midnight on Friday to 12am on Monday (January 8).
A media release, signed by DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, issued on Thursday evening stated that the ban would not be applicable for vehicles carrying law enforcement agencies, armed forces, administration and permitted observers.
According to the circular, the ban excludes vehicles engaged in emergency services, transporting medicines, health services, and newspapers.
Vehicles used for the transporting people travelling to foreign countries and their relatives will be exempted from the ban. They have to carry relevant documents (showing tickets or similar proof) with them.
Candidates contesting in election and their agents are allowed to use one jeep, car, or microbus each showing proper appointment letter or identity card and permission to ply the vehicle subject to sticker display.
Journalists, election observers, and those engaged in election duty can use motorcycles with the approval of returning officers.
Vehicles engaged in the assistance of voters with disabilities will also be out of the ban.
Besides, restrictions will be relaxed on important roads, highways and connecting main roads for exit or entry from Dhaka metropolis or all such roads.
