NARAYANGANJ, Jan 5: Three bodies were recovered two days after a trawler capsized in the Dhaleshwari River in the district on Wednesday.
The trawler sank at Dikrir Char Gudaraghat area of the district at around 6 am on January 1.
Inspector Abdullah Al Mamun, in-charge of Baktabali River Police Outpost, said the three bodies were seen floating 100 yards away from the scene where the trawler capsized.
On information, police recovered the three bodies from the Dikrir Char Gudaraghat area of Alirtek Union on Wednesday afternoon, he said.
The deceased were identified as Md Babul Mia, 47, son of late Nur Islam; Md Selim, 40, son of late Moti Mia; and Jalal Mia, 51, son of late Manik Mia of Kurerpar area of Alirtek Union.
Locals said on January 1, the trawler sank with passengers after being hit by a launch coming from Barishal to Dhaka.
Babu Lal Baidya, deputy director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authoritys (BIWTA) Narayanganj River Ports Naval Nitra Department, said around 15 to 20 passengers were on board when the trawler sank. Most of the passengers managed to swim to the shore, but three passengers were missing.
BIWTA, River Police, Coast Guard and Fire Service conducted the operation to rescue them.
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their relatives, said Inspector Mamun.
