At least four people, including an Awami League polling agent, were injured after the rivals reportedly attacked them in Rajamehar union of Debidwer upazila of Cumilla district on Sunday night.

The injured were AL agent Billal Hossain, his sister-in-law Rina, Shahjahan, and Sayeed.

The AL agent Billal alleged that Rajapara union Chairman Jashim Uddin, a supporter of independent candidate Abul Kalam Azad from Cumilla-4 constituency, attacked around 9pm. They also vandalised his house and beat him with sharp weapons, he added.

The injured Billal was admitted to Cumilla Medical College Hospital while Rina was shifted to Dhaka with serious eye and leg injuries.
However, Jashim Uddin denying the allegation said he was at home during the incident.

Noyon Mia, officer-in-charge of Debidwer Police Station, said a team of police visited the spot and will take legal action after receiving a written complaint.
