At least 10 people were injured and 50 houses vandalised as the supporters of the winning independent candidate from Jhenaidah-2 Naser Shahriar Zahedi attacked defeated AL candidate Tahjib Alom Siddique's supporters houses in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila on Monday morning.
After getting the result of 12th parliamentary polls, the supporters of Naser Shahriar Zahedi attacked on Barikhali, Hiradanga, and Surapara villages under the upazila at around 11am on Monday, confirmed Shaheen Uddin, officer-in-charge of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station.
Tahjib Alom Siddique said at least 10 people, including a woman, were injured and at least 50 houses have been vandilised and lootted the by attackers.
According to locals, after the announcement of the polls' results, there was tension in the three villages.
Defeated AL candidate Tahjib said the police superintendent and district commissioner assured him of necessary actions.
Naser could not be reached on phone for comment.
Jhenidah Sadar Police Station OC Shaheen Uddin said additional police were deployed in the areas.
Further legal action will be taken if the victims file complaints, he added.
