25 hurt in post-polls violence in Meherpur, Cumilla

At least 25 people were injured in Cumilla and Meherpur districts in post-election violence on Sunday and Monday.
MEHERPUR: At least 21 activists and supporters of Boat and Truck symbols were injured in a post-poll violence in Anandabash Village of Mujibnagar Upazila in the district at about 10pm on Monday.
The incident took place in front of the residence of Zia Uddin Biswas, vice-president of District Awami League (AL) and chairman of Mujibnagar Upazila Parishad.
Supporters of both Boat and Truck belonging to Forhad Hossain, newly elected MP, and defeated Independent candidate Prof Abdul Mannan were locked into the violence.
The injured are: Former union member Ferdos Ali (50), son of Kiamat Ali of Anandabas Village, Akash (25), son of Al Mazul Molla, Tuku Bishas (40), son of late Bux Bishas, Hasib (13), son of Sirajul Islam, Altab Hossains son Antar (16), Fazlu Mollas son Abdul Hamid (32), Jirot Alis son Ashraful Islam (45), late Osmans son Ayat Ali (45), Naeemuddin Mollas son Nahidul Islam (59), Ayub Hossains son Nahidul Islam (35), Waz Kurunis son Piyas (25), late Shaukat Alis son Ali Yashin (50), and six others.
Eyewitnesses said, a team of the boat suppers brought out a victory rally in the village. When the rally reached in front of the residence Ziauddin Biswas, a supporter of the boat slapped a supporter of the independent candidate. So supporters of the defeated candidate got angry and started pelting bricks from the rooftop, leaving 18 activists of boat and 3 of truck injured.
Locals rescued them and took them to MujibnagarUpazila Health Complex.
Of them, former union member Ferdous Ali and three workers were sent to Meherpur General Hospital in a critical condition.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mujibnagar Police Station (PS) Ujjal Kumar Dutta said,  a team of Mujibnagar PS went to the spot after receiving the news and dispersed leaders and activists of both sides.
At present, the situation is calm, he added.
The OC further said, police have been deployed in the area.
So far, none has been arrested in this connection, the OC maintained.
CUMILLA: At least four people including an Awami League (AL) polling agent were injured after the rivals reportedly attacked them in Rajamehar Union of Debidwer Upazila in Cumilla on Sunday night.
The injured are: AL agent Billal Hossain, his sister-in-law Rina, Shahjahan, and Sayeed.
AL agent Billal alleged that Rajapara Union Parishad Chairman Jashim Uddin, a supporter of independent candidate Abul Kalam Azad from Cumilla-4 Constituency, attacked them at around 9 pm. They also vandalised his house and beat him with sharp weapons, he added.
Injured Billal was admitted to Cumilla Medical College Hospital while Rina was shifted to Dhaka with serious eye and leg injuries.
However, Jashim Uddin denying the allegation said he was at home during the incident.
Noyon Mia, officer-in-charge of Debidwer Police Station, said a team of police visited the scene and will take legal action after receiving a written complaint.
