Police arrested a leader of Juba League, the youth wing of the ruling Awami League, for reportedly killing a local BNP leader in Mymensingh.
The detainee was Juba League leader Rubel.
Mymensingh Police Superintendent Masum Ahmed Bhuiyan said Harun-or-Rashid, joint secretary of Paithol union unit BNP under Gafargaon upazila, was brutally hacked to death in broad daylight in Gayeshpur kitchen market of the union on Monday.
Quoting locals, the official said Harun was an also homoeopathic physician and ran an establishment called ‘Feroza Homeo Hall’ in Gayeshpur.
He said the killing took place over a personal feud between the accused and the victim.
Following the incident, locals set fire to Rubel's house, the police official said, adding that additional police have been deployed to control the situation.
Meanwhile, after the incident, a video that went viral on social media, where Rubel is seen forcibly bringing Harun out of the establishment and hacking him in public on Monday noon.
