Police have arrested a woman in a case filed over torturing her husband at Konabari union in Gazipur Sadar upazila on Monday afternoon.
The accused Nipa Akhtar, wife of Abul Hossain, was arrested from a house at Zarun North Para area under the union.
According to the case statement, both Abul Hossain and his wife Nipa work at a local garment factory in Gazipur and live in a rented house in the area. Nipa has been torturing her husband every so often over family feud. On Friday night, Nipa attacked her husband with a blade, leaving him critically injured.
After hearing the victim's screams, neighbours woke up around 1:30am and rescued him. When they asked what happened, the accused claimed that her husband was bitten by poisonous insects in different parts of his body, said Abdur Rashid, the owner of the house where the couple lives.
The victim was taken to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital and admitted there with critical injuries.
Later, the victim's family members filed a case with Konabari Police Station.
Following the case, police arrested the accused from her house and legal actions were underway in this regard, said Saidur Rahman Khan, sub-inspector of the police station.
