Nandail gets Planning Minister

NANDAIL, MYMENSINGH, Jan 16: After independence, Nandail Constituency in the district did not get any minister, state minister or deputy minister.

 Now the constituency has got a full minister of planning affairs. He is Major General (Rtd) Abdus Salam. He was sworn in as the full minister on January 11.

He was the chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board, and vice-chairman of International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

 He was also chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society for a long time. He was elected MP in 1996 and 2008 and served as the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Communications.

Abdus Salam is a resident of Rasulpur Village at Nandail Union and second child of late Abdul Waheed and Noor Jahan couple.

  He was born on February 28, 1942 in his village.  He passed BA from Punjab. He achieved experiences of PSC and RCDS of military.

He retired in 1992 after 33 years of service and joined actively in politics in 1996 at the age of 54.

He was the political advisor of the president of Awami League (AL). He served as a member of Advisory Council of AL. He is a member of Mymensingh District AL Executive Committee.  Since 1996, he has been serving as the President of Nandail Upazila AL.
 
For the first time since the independence, nearly five lakh people of Nandail have got a full minister.  

General Secretary of the party Aminul Islam Shahan said, "With his ministership, historical Nandail has reached new height of     history."
