Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Tuesday that construction of Dhaka Elevated Expressway will be completed within this year.
He said at a press briefing at Setu Bhaban in the capital, construction of around 50 percent of the expressway had been completed.
The elevated expressway is open to traffic from the airport to Farmgate, he said.
He said that construction of the elevated expressway from Farmgate to Kutubkhali on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway will be completed this year.
He said that Tk two crore toll is collected daily from the Padma Bridge and so far Tk1,252 crore has been collected. Quader expressed the hope that the BRT project in Gazipur would be completed by June.
In response to query, Quader, also General Secretary of ruling Awami League, said, "The BNP leaders have been saying whatever they like. Nobody should be jealous with the countrys development."
"The interest of the country is first. Everyone should praise the government which works to develop the country. But, its unfortunate that its not so in Bangladesh," he added.
Earlier on the day, he held a meeting with the Bridges Division and Bangladesh Bridges Authority (BBA) officials at Setu Bhaban, to discuss progress in development projects.
