The 10th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to kick off today with a match between Comilla Victorians and Duronto Dhaka, while Sylhet Strikers will take on Chattogram Challengers in the other match of the day.

The day match is scheduled to commence at 2:30 pm (BST) and the night affair will start at 7:30 pm (BST). Both the matches will be hosted at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Defending champions Comilla Victorians, despite missing several big names like Rakheem Cornwall, Iftikhar Ahmed, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Moeen Ali, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Rizwan who are engaged in other franchise events namely Big Bash, SA20 and IL T20, remain a formidable side with local stars such as skipper Liton Das, Mustafizur Rahman, Towhid Hridoy, Tanvir Islam, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, Rishad Hossain, Mahidul Islam Ankon and Imrul Kayes. For the match, overseas players available include Zaman Khan, Jonson Charles, Zaman Khan and Naseem Shah.

On the other hand, Dhaka, considered a moderate side in terms of star player availability, relies on the strengths of captain Mosaddek Hossain Shaikat, speedsters Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam and batters Saif Hassan, Naim Sheikh and Irfan Sukkur. The available overseas players for todays game include Chaturanga de Silva, Lahiru Samarakoon, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Danushka Gunathilaka.

The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), known for not producing a lot of runs, has been prepared with high-scoring wickets for this edition of the BPL. The winter wind with fog may play a significant role and the toss-winning side is likely to prefer batting first.

In the second match after sunset, the defending runners-up Sylhet Strikers will face Chattogram Challengers. Relying on domestic players and charismatic leadership from Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Strikers have key performers like Najmul Hossain Shanto, Zakir Hasan, Mohammad Mithun, Yasir Ali Rabbi, Rejaur Rahman Raja and Nayeem Hasan. Foreign recruits available for todays game include Benny Howell, Ben Cutting, Dushan Hemantha, Ryan Burl and Samit Patel.

Chattogram Challengers will miss key overseas players for todays game, including Mohammad Haris, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Hasnain, Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando. The team will rely on domestic players like captain Shuvagata Hom, Ziaur Rahman, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shykat Ali, Imran Uzzaman, Shahadat Hossain Dipu, Salauddin Sakil and Nihaduzzaman. Among the overseas recruits, Stephen Eskinazi, Curtis Campher and Hunain Shah are expected to play key roles.

Considering the dew factor, the toss-winning captain is likely to prefer batting first.
