Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said on Thursday, "Peoples trust on the electoral system has deteriorated. Reformation of election system is needed to ensure a participatory election."

Speaking after a meeting of thanks giving ceremony for conducting the 12th general election successfully at Agargaow Election Commission building he said, "The recent general election has freed the nation from a severe crisis. Without the help of the government, it is not possible to make such a big campaign successful."
Awal said, "But it is not a permanent solution. Because Election Commission cannot get acceptance until it achieves politicians confidence. If there is a crisis every five years due to elections, then the development of the country will also be hindered. Political leadership will also need to find a way to deal with election."

CEC believed the elections will be more acceptable in the future, if government can bring reforms in the election system.

He urged to resolve the crisis of this type of system to keep the next commission free from controversy even after their term has expired.

The CEC said, "The 12th general election was not so participatory. A large group not only boycotted, but wanted to resist the election."

CEC also said, "Election Commissioner did not execute agenda of any political party in the recent election."

EC Md Ahsan Habib Khan said, "We have succeeded by working in good faith. We could not go down from the standard we have reached. We will show how this commission works, which will be exemplary for the future."

EC Md Alamgir said, "The parties which participated and the government, all cooperated wholeheartedly. Everyone from Ansar helped. Without the governments support, we could not have conducted the elections fairly. Elections would have been more acceptable if all parties had participated."

EC Md Anisur Rahman said, "We were firm that if we cannot hold free, fair and peaceful elections, we will take a hard decision."
