Durdanto Dhaka secured a convincing victory over the defending champions Comilla Victorians by five wickets in the opening match of the 10th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.

DDs won the toss and elected to field first, inviting CVs to bat. Despite losing the wicket of their captain Liton Das early in the initial powerplay, the Victorians showcased a remarkable 107-run 2nd wicket partnership between ImrulKayes and TawhidHridoy.

While Liton was dismissed for 13, Hridoy missed a fifty by three runs, and Kayes scored an impressive 66 runs.

Hridoy faced 41 balls and Kayes took 56 balls. Both batsmen, however, can be criticized for playing a minimal number of big shots, resulting in a modest total for CVs.

After the departure of Hridoy and Kayes, the Victorians struggled, losing five wickets and adding only 13 runs in the last two overs.

Shoriful Islam took three wickets, achieving the first hat-trick of the ongoing BPL, conceding 27 runs in his stipulated four overs. Taskin Ahmed secured two wickets, while Chaturanga de Silva picked up the remaining.

Chasing a 144-run target, DDs had a strong start from openers Naim Sheikh and DanushkaGunathilaka. They dominated the Victorians bowlers, accumulating 101 runs before Naims dismissal for 52 off 40 balls, including three boundaries and as many over boundaries. Gunathilaka, on the other hand, contributed 41 off 42.

However, after the dismissal of the opener, Dhaka lost wickets at regular intervals. LasithCroospulle was out for five runs and Saif Hassan for seven. Irfan Sukkurs 24 off 16 helped Dhaka to reach 147 for five from 19.3 overs.

Shoriful Islam of Dhaka was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling spell, including a hat-trick.
