Two killed, 10 hurt as tourist jeep plunges into ditch in Bandarban

At least two people were killed and 10 others injured after a tourist jeep losing control veered off the Boga Lake -Keokradong road and fell into a deep gorge in Darjeeling Para area of Ruma upazila in Bandarban on Saturday noon.

The deceased were Zainab, 24, a Master's student, and Firoza Begum, 50, from Dhaka.

Ruma Upzila Nirbahi Officer Syeed Mahbubul Haq confirmed the news.

He said the jeep carrying the tourists, after visiting different spots at Keokradong, was returning to Bandarban. When the jeep reached the Darjeeling Para, the jeep lost control and fell into the deep gorge at around 12pm, leaving two people dead on the spot and ten others injured.

On information, members of fire service, police, Army and upazila administration promptly reached to the spot and rescued the injured. They took them to Ruma Upazila Health Complex.

Among the injured, five were shifted to Bandarnban Sadar Hospital at around 1pm as their conditions deteriorated.

Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Shah Mojahid Uddin said a group comprising 58 tourists in five tourist jeeps went to Boga Lake of Ruma upazila on Friday (January 19). They were returning to Bandarban on Saturday and one jeep fell into the ditch.

He said the police have recovered bodies.
