The Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) will open at Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center (BBCFEC), Purbachal in the city today (Sunday).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasian is scheduled to inaugurate the fair, State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu said at a press conference in the city on Saturday.

"The main objective of this fair is to showcase how our exports diversification is taking place and reducing dependence on garment as lone export. It will tremendously encourage local industries to grow as import substitutes. Our exports have so far increased 6 times," said State Minister said.

Addressing a press conference ahead of the trade fair the State Minister said: "We do not encourage foreign participants to bring in more products to sell in local market. We invite them more as buyers. One of the goals of the fair is to introduce local industries and products to foreigners.

The State Minister said, "The main focus of the fair is to enable domestic sellers to set up export stalls to popularize local goods to foreigners."

He said, "Many of our electronics products are showcased in the fair. It has come a long way. In future the international trade fair will focus on local industries to showcase their products such as handicrafts, furniture, frozen food products and leather and jute goods. You can see a reflection of that in the fair."

AHM Ahsan, vice chairman of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), said as the government puts top priority to security, the authorities have outsourced people and hired manpower for this purpose. There will be police-Ansar and RAB to act as striking force if necessary.

Around 100 cleaners have been appointed; BRTC will place buses to carry visitors. One can board a bus now from Farmgate to come to the fair venue in a very short time."
