Pedestrian killed in Sherpur road accident

An elderly pedestrian was killed after being crushed under a covered van at Nokla upazila in Sherpur district on Monday morning.

The accident took place at around 9.15am in Kurshabadgour area under the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Jalil, 65, son of late Mohammad Ali, a resident of the aforesaid area.

According to locals, a speeding covered van overturned on the Nokla-Phulpur regional highway and fell on Abdul Jalil when its driver lost control over the steering of the vehicle, leaving the elderly man dead on the spot.

Nokla Police Station officer-in-charge Md Abdul Qader said being informed, police seized the truck, however, its driver managed to flee the scene.

The legal action was underway in this regard, added the OC.
