Four-day plastic goods fair to open in city on Jan 24

The four-day 16th International Plastics Fair-2024 is starting on January 24. About 800 stalls both representing local and foreign firms will display their products and equipment in the fair, organizers said.

The fair will open at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) and continue till January 27 and will remain open to visitors every day from 12 noon to 8 in the evening.

Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturing and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) president Samim Ahmed made the disclosure at a press conference at the Association office in the city on Monday.

It was also attended by BPGMEA Adviser and former president ASM Kamal Uddin, Yusuf Ashraf, Ferdous Waheed, Shahedul Islam Helal, former senior vice president KM Iqbal Hossain and Gias Uddin Ahmed, vice president Kazi Anwarul Haque and Md. Enamul Haque.

Samim Ahmed told reporters that China, Taiwan, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, South Korea, UK, Egypt, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Austria, Singapore, Turkey and United Arab Emirates would take part in this years fair.

Shamim said at present $200 million worth of plastic products are directly exported and $900 million worth of products are exported as accessories. He said we want to increase the export to $5000 million annually.  He said governments cooperation is essential to achieve the goal.

In response to a question, he said 80 to 90 percent plastic goods demand in the country is currently met by domestic industries, in addition to exports.
