BHOLA, Jan 22: A man and his son went missing as a trawler with seven people including the duo capsized in the Meghna River in the district on Sunday night.
The missing are: Razzak Sarder, and his son Parvez Sadar, hail from Mehendiganj Upazila of Barishal.
Those who have been rescued are: Russell Sarder, Reaz, Shakil, Rubel, and Ratan Sarder. Rescued Shakil said they sailed out for Mehendiganj of Barishal from Monpura Upazila in Bhola on a trawler carrying scrap objects on Sunday night.
At one stage, the front end of the trawler started sinking in the river due to heavy tide, forcing five out of the seven crew members to jump into the river, he said, adding that unfortunately Razzak and his son Parvez were stuck in the trawler.
Fishermen from other boats and trawlers rushed in and rescued the five, Shakil said, adding that the fishermen then called the national emergency service 999 seeking assistance to rescue the father and the son.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhola River Police Station Bidyut Kumar Ghosh confirmed the matter, saying that a team of river police was sent to the scene while a divers team from Fire Service and Civil Defence is conducting operation to find out the missing persons.
