Step taken to make communication easy in disaster-prone areas

GAIBANDHA, Jan 25: Speakers at a function in the district on Tuesday afternoon said the people of disaster-prone areas in Sundarganj  Upazila of the district got different benefits from SAFE (Scaling up Anticipatory Action for Flood Prone Areas in Bangladesh) project during the flood.

"Under the project, various types of services had been ensured to the flood victims in the upazila.
Communication system in the flood-affected areas had also been okayed in flood-affected areas of the upazila through building bridges and pathways of wood during the emergency", they added.

Speakers made the comments while addressing the concluding ceremony of the project, held in the  hallroom of the Upazila Parishad in the afternoon. It was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Office (UNO) Tariqul Islam.

SKS Foundation, a Gaibandha based non-government organization, arranged the function on the occasion of project phase-out in the upazila.

Project Officer Ranjit Kumar Paul described the objectives and goals of the project and said, SKS Foundation  implemented the project in the upazila with the financial support of Save the Children, International.

The project started on February 1 in 2023, and it would end on January 24 in 2024, he added.

He further said, the project officials and employees tried their level best to make the project in the upazila successful.  

He also expressed his gratefulness to the UNO and union chairmen for providing help and assistance to run project smoothly.

Md Tanzimul Islam, SAFE project focal and project officer, also addressed the function and described the role of Save the Children, International.

UNO Tariqul Islam thanked the staff of the project and its authority for implementing the project in the upazila as it played a significant role in reducing the loss of life and properties.

Almost all members of Upazila Disaster Management Committee, upazila level officials, invited persons and journalists were present at the function.
