RAJSHAHI, Jan 26: One hundred trainee female youths were given laptops free of cost aimed at transforming them into successful entrepreneurs through income generating activities, particularly e-commerce and call centre agency, in the region.
The trainees coming from different areas in Chapaiunawabganj Sadar, Gomostapur and Shibganj Upazilas were given the laptops with the main thrust of women empowerment through information and communication technology frontier initiative.
On behalf of its Her Power Project, the Department of Information and Communication Technology distributed the laptops at a ceremony held at Joy Silicon Tower of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib High-tech Park here on Thursday afternoon.
State Minister for Post, Telecommunication and ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak attended and addressed the ceremony as chief guest, while Director General of Department of ICT Mostofa Kamal was in the chair.
Social worker Shaheen Akhter Rainy, Panel Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Nizam Ul Azim, Project Director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib High-tech Park Fazlul Haque and Director of Her Power Project Raihana Islam also spoke.
In his remarks, State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the project has been adopted for generating 25,125 successful women entrepreneurs throughout the country.
The project aims to acquire skills through information technology, create new employment opportunities, and increase womens participation in economic activities. —BSS
