26 shops gutted by fire in Shariatpur, Noakhali

At least 26 shops were gutted by fire in separate incidents in two districts- Shariatpur and Noakhali, in two days.

SHARIATPUR: Six shops were gutted by fire that broke out in Naria Upazila of the district early Saturday.

The fire broke out in Bazar Bridge Road area in the upazila town at around 5 am.

According to police and locals, the fire was first noticed between Mahiya Electronics and Babul Electronics shops which spread out nearby shops within moments.

On information, a team of Naria Fire Service rushed in and brought the fire under control after two hours of effort, said Habibur Rahman, in-charge of Naria Fire Service Station.

Initially, it is believed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. But it was not known from which shop caught the fire first, he said.

Further details will be known after investigation, the official added.

The affected traders claimed that around Tk 2 crore worth of damage was caused by the fire.

Naria Upazila Nirbahi officer (UNO) Shankar Choindra Baidya said, "We will stand by the affected traders on behalf of the upazila administration."

AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem, MP, from Shariatpur-2 Constituency, expressed deep sympathy to the businessmen affected by the fire and assured to stand by the affected people.

NOAKHALI: At least 20 shops were gutted by fire that broke out in Begumganj Upazila of the district on Friday evening.

The fire broke out at Railgate Super Market, Aziz Market, and BOC Market in Chowmuhani Bazar of the upazila at around 7 pm.

Chowmuhani Fire Service Station Official Mozammel Haque said being informed by locals, eight units from Begumganj, Chowmuhani, Senbag, Maijdee and Sonaimuri rushed there and brought the flame under control.

Initially, it is believed that the fire was originated from electric short circuit, but the actual reason behind the fire would be known after investigation, he said.

Noakhali Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Director Md Farid Ahmed said investigation is going on to find out the origin of the fire and further details will be released at the end of the investigation.

The affected shop owners claimed that goods worth about Tk 2.5 were completely destroyed due to the fire.
