Khadijatul Kubra, a student of political science department of Jagannath University (JNU) was discharged from one of the two Digital Security Act (DSA) cases.
Recently she came to limelight as she was languishing for 450 days (15 months) in prison being an immature girl and a kidney patient. The Tribunal fixed February 29 for hearing in the other case filed with New Market police station. Dhaka Cyber Tribunal judge AM Zulfiqar Hayat passed the order on Sunday.
The court discharged her in the case filed with Kalabagan Police Station as the judge opined that she is being dismissed from one case, because two cases concerning one incident cannot run simultaneously.
Khadija was accused in two cases filed by the Kalabagan and New Market police on October 11 and October 19 in 2020.
Khadija suffered over 15 months in jail in the DSA cases, and finally walked out of jail on November 20 in 2023, after securing bail. She was denied bail a total of 7 times, according to her family. The student was sued at the age of 17 for hosting a Facebook webinar, where a guest speaker, Delwar Hossain, a retired army officer, made contentious remarks. Delwar, an expatriate, was also accused in these cases. On August 27 in 2022, Khadija was arrested by the police.
Following her arrest, Khadijas bail application was rejected several times. The High Court granted her bail on February 16, but the state filed an application for its suspension.
