Four killed in separate road accidents

Four people including two schoolgirls have been killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in four districts- Shariatpur, Natore, Khagrachhari and Brahmanbaria, in three days.
SHARIATPUR: A minor girl was killed after being crushed under the wheels of a battery-operated auto-rickshaw in Gosairhat Upazila of the district on Monday morning.
The accident took place on the Nagerpara-Gosairhat road in Nagerpara area of the upazila at around 10 am.
The deceased was identified as Adiba, 5, daughter of Borhan Uddin and Mahmuda Akter, a resident of Ranisar area in the upazila.
According to the deceaseds family sources, Mahmuda along with Adiba used to live in a rented house in Nagerpara area and Borhan lives in Dhaka for his job purposes.
Mahmuda admitted Adiba to Nagerpara Government Primary School in first grade on Sunday. On Monday morning, Adiba was on the way to her first day at school on foot holding her mothers hand. When they reached in front of a local madrasa in Nagerpara area at around 10 am, a speedy battery-operated auto-rickshaw ran over Adiba, leaving the child critically injured.
Locals rescued the child and took to Gosairhat Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
However, the law enforcers have seized the three-wheeler, but its driver managed to flee the scene.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gosairhat Police Station (PS) Pushpen Debnath confirmed the incident, adding that police are conducting drives to arrest the driver of the vehicle and legal action would be taken in this regard.
BARAIGRAM, NATORE: A man was killed and two others were injured as a truck rammed an auto-van in Baraigram Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
The accident took place in Coin Bazaar area on the Natore-Pabna highway under the upazila at around 8 pm.
The deceased was identified as Faruque Hossain, 55, son of late Abdus Sattar Khalifa, a resident of Kolos Village in the upazila. He was a cloth trader by profession.
Meanwhile, the injured Sobuj Hossain Hridoy, 20, and the auto-van driver Hekmat Ali Sheikh, 61, were undergoing treatment at Bonpara Patwari General Hospital.
According to local sources, Faruque was returning home after selling clothes in a local market at night riding on the auto-van. On the way, a speedy truck hit the auto-van in Coin Bazaar area on the highway at around 8 pm, leaving the trio critically injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and rushed them to Bonpara Patwari General Hospital, where Faruque succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
However, the law enforcers have seized the killer truck, but its driver managed to flee the scene.
Bonpara Highway PS OC Habibur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed with the PS in this regard and legal action is underway.
KHAGRACHHARI: A local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was killed after being run over by a tractor in the district town on Sunday.
The accident took place on the hospital road in the town at around 2 pm.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Quader Chowdhury, 30, son of Nurul Absar Chowdhury, hailed from APBN area in the town. He was a vice-president of Khagrachhari Municipality Unit of BCL.
According to local sources, the BCL leader was riding a motorcycle at noon. At that time, a sand-laden tractor coming from the opposite direction hit his motorcycle on the hospital road in the town, leaving him seriously injured.
Local people then rescued him and took to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital, from where he was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) following the deterioration of his condition.
Later on, Nurul Quader succumbed to his injuries on the way to the CMCH.
Being informed, police recovered the body and seized the tractor.
Khagrachhari Sadar PS OC Tanvir Hasan confirmed the incident, adding that filing of a case is underway in this regard.
NABINAGAR, BRAHMANBARIA: A schoolgirl was killed in a road accident in Nabinagar Upazila of the district on Sunday noon.
The accident took place in Shibpur area of the upazila at around 1:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Sayma Akhter, 13, daughter of Shahidul Alam, a resident of Semantaghar Village under Bidyakut Union in the upazila. She was a sixth grader at Shibpur Union High School.
It was known that Sayma was going home from the school in tiffin period riding on an auto-rickshaw. On the way, her scarf entangled with the wheel of the running auto-rickshaw accidentally, which left critically injured.
Locals then rescued Sayma and took the girl to Shibpur Union Health Complex, from where she was referred to Nabinagar Upazila Health Complex for better treatment. Later on, she was declared dead by the on-duty doctor at Nabinagar Upazila Health Complex.
