Agitated leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit became even more aggressive to oust their General Secretary Habibur Rahman Liton.

Meanwhile,  the agitators staged demonstration on Wednesday night to oust Liton from the campus following the announcement of the hall committees under the signature of Liton.

Some 250 leaders-activists brought out a procession at around 10:00pm from the new arts building premises and ended in front of the Bangangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall.

After the arrival of the agitators, tension flared between the demonstrators and the followers of Liton when the procession reached the Bangabandhu Hall.

Later, the university proctor Associate Professor ASM Firoz-Ul-Hasan came to the spot and pacified the agitators.

The agitators claimed that Liton had assembled individuals with fire-arms to shoot at them.

The university proctor told journalists that this was their internal political crisis. He is not willing to intervene in the matter. However, he will inform the concerned central BCL leaders to solve it.

Earlier on January 23, around three-hundred leaders and activists of JU BCL declared Liton persona-non-grata on the campus amid heaping a horde of allegations including land grabbing and extortion from the ongoing development project of Tk 1,445.36 crore.

Following the tension, a four-member inquiry committee was formed by the central unit of the BCL on January 27, asking to submit the field-level inquiry report within 10 days.

However, the inquiry committee hasn started its activities after five days of formation of the inquiry committee.

Shahidul Haque Shishir, a Joint Secretary of BCL central unit and a member of the inquiry committee said, We haven visited the JU campus yet. After sitting with the other members, we will visit soon and the report will be submitted in due time.

Regarding the announcement of the hall committees and the incident of massive demonstration, he said, We will inform the central President and Secretary. We will work according to the decision made by the President and Secretary.
