A college student, who sustained injuries in an
attack by miscreants at Basail upazila in
Tangail district on January 24, died at a hospital in Dhaka on Friday morning (February 2).
Deceased Jijan Hasan Dipto, 18, was son of Jahangir Alam Mallik, a resident of Chakdah village under Sakhipur upazila in the district. He passed HSC examination recently from Bir Shreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College in Dhaka and was taking preparation to sit in upcoming Medical Admission test.
Quoting the deceased's relatives, Prince Mahmud, Councillor of Ward No-6 under Basail Municipality, said Dipto came to his grandfather's house in the upazila on January 23. Subsequently, a group of miscreants attacked Dipto over a previous enmity when he along with two others was going to a local market on January 24, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued him and took to Basail Upazila Health Complex where the physicians referred him to Tangail General Hospital. He then, shifted to Dhaka where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday (February 2) while undergoing treatment.
Following the
killing, the victim's mother Soheli Sultana Dipa filed a case with Basail Police Station accusing 11 to 12 people.
Basail Police Station sub-inspector and investigation officer of the case Nazrul Islam said police arrested the main accused of the killing among three accused in this connection and efforts are on to arrest the others.
