Policeman, 3 others killed in road accidents

At least four people including a policeman were killed and dozen others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Gazipur, Rajbari and Manikganj on Friday.

In Dhaka, a motorcyclist died and his pillion rider was injured after the bike collided with a private car on the Hanif Flyover in Jatrabari area of the capital on Friday morning.

The deceased was Md Shahin, 22, a motorcycle mechanic, and injured Md Azim, 20, a motorcycle parts seller.

Police sources said the incident occurred when the duo was going to Bangshal and a private car rammed their motorbike. Locals rescued them and took them to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared Shahin dead.

Azim is now undergoing treatment at the hospitals emergency department, Inspector Md Bachchu Mia, In-Charge of DMCH Police Outpost, said adding that the body was kept at the morgue for autopsy.

Our Gazipur Correspon-dent adds a police official died and another injured after a bus hit their motorcycle in Tongi Millgate area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway on Friday morning.

The deceased was Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Hasan, of Manikganj District Court and the injured was Sub-Inspector Amir Hamza, of Manikganj District police control room.

Officer-in-Charge of Tongi East Police Station Mostafizur Rahman said that the accident took place in Tongi Millgate area around 6:30am when a bus of Balaka Paribahan rammed the motorcycle while they were on their way to report for duty at the Ijtema ground.

He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment there and SI Hamza is now undergoing treatment.

Our Rajbari  Correspondent reports  a motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a bus on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway at Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district on Friday afternoon. The accident took place at around 1:15pm at Jomidar Bridge area under the upazila.The deceased was identified as Akbar Mallik, 60, son of Monser Mallik, a resident of Khankhanapur area in Rajbari Sadar upazila.

Quoting locals, police said the accident occurred when a speeding Dhaka-bound Golden Line Paribahan bus hit the victims motorbike  leaving him critically injured.

Locals rushed him to Goalanda Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor Mohammad Rukonuazzaman declared him dead.

Ahladipur Highway Police Station OC Md Abdul Halim said being informed, additional police have been sent to the spot and they have seized the bus involved in the accident.

However, the driver and his helper managed to flee the scene and legal action would be taken against them, added the OC.

Our Manikganj Correspon-dent writes a microbus driver was killed and 10 others were injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a microbus on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Manikganj Sadar upazila on Friday noon.

The deceased was identified as Mitu Mia, 30, a resident of Tara village under Ghior upazila of the district.

Dhaka-Aricha highway Traffic Inspector KM Meraj Uddin said the accident took place when the Paturia-bound Rajdhani Express Paribahan bus collided head-on with the microbus in Bhatbaur area under the upazila, leaving the the microbus driver dead on the spot and 10 passengers of the bus critically injured.
