The incidents of kidnapping often happen at different parts of the country including capital Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB)'s Lalbagh Division has found the links between the kidnapping gangs and car drivers in quite a large number of cases.
DMP's additional commissioner (DB) Mohamamd Harun-or-Rashid stated it while talking to reporters at his Minto Road office in the capital on Saturday (February 3).

Drawing attention to the university student Himel abduction case, he said the Lalbagh Division of the DMP DB was investigating the case. During the investigation, police detained Himel's private car driver. The driver is the mastermind of the abduction.

Arrested driver Samidul held talks with an engineer at Turag area. Then he talked with Mymensingh Dhobaura union parishad chairman Mamun. It was planned that Himel would be kept at his house after kidnapping. Later, Himel was taken to his house after abduction. As Himel's family delayed to pay the ransom, Mamun took him to a mountain at the border area. Then they started torturing Himel.

Harun-or-Rashid said the DB's Lalbagh Division arrested Masud from Shariatpur's char region. Taking information from Masud, DB appointed sources at Dhobaura, Netrokona, Durgapur and Tanguar in Tahirpur. The DB learned from the sources that they were not only involved in abduction, they also involved in smuggling. They torture victims after abduction. Himel's photos and videos were used to send to his mother.

Subsequently, they claimed Tk 30 lakh from Himel's mother for the release of her son but could not cope with the situation owing to the DB's involvement.

Finally, the DB arrested driver Samidul, and four others including accused of 17 cases Malek. RAB also assisted the DB in the drive. Subsequently the victim Himel was rescued.
