Two Bangladeshis in Naikhongchhari of Bandarban were injured by firing from across the border in Myanmar on Sunday morning.
The injured were Prabir Dhar, 58, son of Yudisthi Dhar of Tambru Camp Para in Naikhongchhari of the district, and Rahima Begum, 50, wife of Dil Mohammad, a former Ghumdhum union council member, said In-charge of Ghumdhum Police Outpost Mahfuz Imtiaz Bhuiyan.
The two victims were shot at around 10am amid the ongoing conflict between the Myanmar military and insurgent groups in the border area.
The injured were transferred to Bandarban for treatment by helicopter, Khaleda Begum, a reserved seat councillor for the Ghumdhum union council.
During the fighting, a mortar shell fell on a house in Tumbru area and Prabir was injured when he was returning his home.
Meanwhile, locals said the fighting started between the insurgent groups and the Myanmar official force at around 3:30am on Sunday which is still going on.
They said the incident sparked panic among local residents and they barred their children from going to school.
Earlier, on Sunday six educational institutions were declared closed amid the fear.
Mentionable, on Saturday afternoon, bullets fired from across the border hit an auto-rickshaw on the Tambru border road. The front glass of the auto-rickshaw was broken.
