BARISHAL, Feb 5: In 25 days of January, 115 children died of cold diseases in Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in the division.
This information was confirmed by the SBMCH authorities on February 1.
According to information of the Directorate of Health (DoH), in other government hospitals, four patients died in January. A total of 5,285 children with various diseases were admitted to SBMCH. Most of them were affected by cold diseases.
In January 5,144 patients were admitted to 42 government hospitals including six district Sadar Upazila hospitals and upazila health complexes. Of them, four ones died.
Nurses of Children Ward at the SBMCH informed, most of the admitted children were affected by cold diseases including pneumonia, diarrhoea, bronchitis, Asthma, tough breath, and respiratory problems.
Affected children were treated on floor due to bed crisis, they added.
Director of the DoH-Barishal Division Shyamol Krishna Mandal said, in the winter season, usually foggy dusts enter lungs, causing respiratory problems.
He advised all to wear masks and keep children wrapped with warm clothes.
