The students and teachers of Jahangirnagar University staged demonstration over raping a woman by a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League and his associates on JU campus by keeping her husband confined on February 3.
Some 100 protesters formed a human chain to press home 4-point demands under the banner of Jahangirnagar Against Repression at around 12:00 pm at the road adjacent to the central Shaheed Minar of the university.
The protesters demanded speedy trial of the culprits, throwing out non-student from the dormitories, resignation of the provost and proctor and expulsion of Mahmudur Rahman Joni who has been accused of moral turpitude.
Addressing the human chain, Ahsan Labib, office secretary of Jahangirnagar Sangskrittik Jote, said, "The provost of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall and the proctor played a controversial role about their respective duties. They have lost their moral rights to hold their responsibilities. We demand their immediate resignation."
Anichha Parvin Jolly, professor of History department, said, "The administration instructed to throw out the non-students but they didn take any visible measures yet. They promised to investigate all the matters aptly but we don see anything in reality."
