DAULATKHAN, BHOLA, Feb 7: Fisheries Department arrested 13 fishermen in Daulatkhan Upazila of the district in a special combing operation to remove illegal nets that are destroying the countrys fisheries resources.
Meanwhile, 1 lakh meters of illegal fishing nets, 2,000 meters of pole nets, 40 garrapies, four large trawlers, one medium trawler, and a small boat and 60 poles of nets were also seized.
Later on, Executive Magistrate and Daulatkhan Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pathan Mohammad Saiduzzaman sentenced the 13 arrested fishermen to one-month imprisonment by conducting a mobile court.
The convicts were sent over to Bhola Jail on Wednesday morning. They are residents of Ramgati area.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Fisheries Department raided various points of the Meghna River and arrested them.
Daulatkhan Upazila Fisheries Officer Mahfuzul Hasnain said, "A special combing operation is underway to remove the illegal nets that are destroying the countrys fisheries resources. As a part of this, a day-long operation was conducted in Hajipur and Madanpur areas of the Meghna River on Tuesday."
The official added that the campaign against these illegal nets will continue.
Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Daulatkhan Police Station Ershadul Haque Bhuiyan, Daulatkhan Municipality Ward No-6 Councillor Zakir Hossain and other policemen were also present at that time.
