Strikers keep play-off hope alive cracking Tigers

Sylhet Strikers kept nose above the water edging past Khulna Tigers by five wickets in Fridays Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 encounter at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur.

Winning the toss, Sylhet Strikers opted to bat first and posted a respectable total of 153 runs on the board despite their top three batsmen departing with just 54 runs on the scoreboard.

Caribbean powerhouse Evin Lewis fell for 12 runs while Afif Hossain Dhrubo showed promise but managed only 24 off 16 deliveries including three boundaries and an over boundary. Mahmudul Hasan Joy was dismissed without opening his account.

Following this setback, Tigers skipper Anamul Haque Bijoy and Habibur Rahman Sohan not only repaired the damage but also propelled the team to a respectable total.

Both remained unbeaten in a 99-run partnership, with Bijoy finishing on 67 not out off 58 balls including five fours and two sixes while Sohan contributed 43 off 30 deliveries including three boundaries and as many over boundaries.

Samit Patel, Sunzamul Islam and Benny Howell each claimed one wicket for the Strikers.

Chasing 154 runs for victory, Sylhet Strikers lost makeshift opener Patel for 13 runs while Najmul Hossain Shanto managed only 18 runs and Zakir Hasan departed for a duck.

Harry Tector and skipper Mohammad Mithun then took control of the game until Mithuns dismissal for 24 off 19 balls while Tector departed after scoring 61 off 52 deliveries including six boundaries and three maximums.

However, Zimbabwean recruit Ryan Burl showcased devastating form with the bat remaining unbeaten on 32 off 16 balls including three boundaries and a maximum to seal the victory. Ariful Haque was batting on one as the Strikers reached 159 for five with six balls to spare.

Mark Deyal took three wickets for the Tigers while Sumon Khan and Nahidul Islam shared the remaining wickets.

Harry Tector of Sylhet was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding all-around performance.
