Five held with drugs in 3 districts

Five people were held along with drugs in separate drives in three districts - Sirajganj, Gaibandha and Satkhira, recently.

SIRAJGANJ: Members of Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), in a drive, arrested a man along with 14 kilograms of hemp from Shahjadpur Upazila in the district on Tuesday night.

The arrested man is Rafiqul Islam, 40, hails from Gokul Union in Bogura District.

Rajshahi DNC Deputy Director Jillur Rahman said acting on a tip-off, a team of the DNC conducted a drive in the Nagarbarai highway at night, and arrested Rafiqul red-handed along with the hemp.

The estimate market value of the seized drugs is around Tk 15 lakh, said the DNC official, adding that a case was filed with Shahjadpur Police Station (PS) against him under the Narcotics Control Act.

GAIBANDHA: Two people were arrested along with drugs in separate drives in Sadullapur Upazila of the district recently.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in a drive, arrested a man along with 3,280 yaba tablets from Sadullapur Upazila recently.

The arrested is Abdul Alim Mia, 42, hails from Ujanijora Village under Debidwar Upazila in Cumilla.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Hasanpara area under Dhaperhat Union of the upazila, and arrested Alim red-handed along with the drugs, reads a press release signed by RAB-13 Gaibandha Camp Flight Lieutenant (media) Mahmud Bashir Ahmed.

According to the press release, Alim confessed to his involvement in the drug smuggling during primary questioning.

Later on, he was handed over to Sadullapur PS after filing of a case against him under the Narcotics Control Act, the press release added.

Meanwhile, Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested a drug peddler along with 293 bottles of liquor from Fulchhari Upazila recently.

Superintendent of Police (SP) in Gaibandha Kamal Hossain confirmed the information in a press briefing.

The arrested is Abdus Sobhan Naddu, 42, a resident of Pardiara Village under Kamarjani Union of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila. He used to live in Jigabari Village under Fulchhari Upazila.

"Abdus Sobhan along with his four wives have been smuggling the liquor for long. Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB Police conducted a drive in the village and arrested him," said SP Kamal Hossain.

The team also recovered 293 bottles of liquor from his possession hidden in nine sacks underneath a haystack, he said.

A case was filed with the PS concerned against him, and five more cases including killing and robbing are under trial against him, the SP added.

SATKHIRA: Members of RAB, in a drive, arrested two men along with 34,000 yaba tablets from Debhata Upazila in the district recently.

The arrested are: Mohammad Hossain, 45, hails from Halishahar Upazila in Chattogram; and Mojib Ullah, 35, of Teknaf Upazila in Coxs Bazar.

Additional Superintendent of Police of RAB-6 Nazmul Haque said on information, they came to know that a huge assignment of yaba tablets would be smuggled in Shyamnagar and Debhata upazilas from Coxs Bazar. Acting on the tip-off, a team of the elite force took place at Parulia Bus Stand in the upazila and detained two suspects along with a truck.

While searching the vehicle, the team recovered 34,000 yaba tablets hidden inside the truck engine.

The team also seized Tk 28,912 in cash and two mobile phone sets from their possession, said Nazmul Haque.

The estimate market value of the seized drugs is around Tk 1 crore.
