Eight killed, 15 injured in road accidents

Eight people including two Rohingya children were killed and 15 others injured in separate road accidents in six districts- Chuadanga, Noakhali, Coxs Bazar, Madaripur, Rajshahi, and Patuakhali, in three days.
CHUADANGA: A bicyclist was killed after being hit by a bus on the Chuadanga-Meherpur highway in Sadar Upazila on Saturday morning.
The incident took place at Alukdia Bazar in the upazila when a Chuadanga Deluxe Paribahan bus hit him on the highway.
The deceased was identified as Shamsul Islam, 50, a resident of Pirpur Village in the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station (PS) Sekendar Ali confirmed the matter.
Alukdia Union Member Abdul Jabbar  said, Shamsul was injured in the accident while going to Chuadanga Boro Bazar to sell betel leaf.
Later on, locals rescued him and took him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, where residential medical officer Dr Wahid Mahmud Robin declared him dead, he added.
The body will be handed over to the family after preparing an inquest report, the PS OC added.
NOAKHALI: A woman and a minor child were killed after a speeding truck ran over them in the districts Sadar Upazila on Friday afternoon.
The accident took place at about 6pm in the area adjacent to Sonapur Puran Bus Stand in the municipality.
The identities of the deceased woman (aged around 60) could not be known immediately. The child was identified as Jannatul Ferdous, 8, daughter of Zaker Hossain of Char Karam Ulla Village in the upazila.
According to locals, the woman had been living in the area as a vagabond for a long time. On Friday afternoon, the childs family invited her to their home for having lunch with them.
After having lunch, Jannatul went out of the house to help the woman to cross the road when a speeding truck ran over the duo in front of the house, leaving them critically injured.
Family members sent them to Noakhali General Hospital where on-duty doctors declared them dead.
Sudharam PS Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Riaz Hasan said, they recovered the bodies and sent those to the hospital morgue for autopsies.
COXS BAZAR: Two Rohingya children were killed after being hit by a tourist bus in the districts Teknaf Upazila on Friday.
The accident took place in Leda BGB Camp area in the upazila at about 8 am.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Hasan, 5, and Mohammad Ismail, 8, residents of Teknaf Rohingya Camp-25D/26 Block.
According to police, a tourist bus of Pyara Service was going towards Teknaf with tourists. On the way, it ran over two children while they were crossing the road in that area. Both the children died on the spot.
OC of Teknaf Ho Yikong Highway PS  Qayyum Chowdhury said, the bus has been seized.
MADARIPUR: A retired agricultural officer died in a road accident  in the district on Thursday at about 10pm.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, 65,  son of Kamal Uddin of Srinathadi Village at  Kendua Union in Sadar Upazila. He retired as assistant agricultural officer five years back.
The accident took place near the Directorate of Youth Development in Khagadi area of Sheikh Hasina Regional Highway in Sadar Upazila.
Abdus Salam was returning home by motorcycle which collided with another speeding motorcycle from the opposite direction. At that time, he fell off the motorcycle and was hit by a speeding truck. He died on the spot.
Madaripur Sadar Model PS OC AH Salauddin said, the body was recovered and kept in Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The truck driver fled away after the accident, the OC added.
RAJSHAHI: A member of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP was killed reportedly after hooligans punched him at Rajshahi Railway Station on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Mainul Islam, 45, hailed from Mangonpur Village in Godagari Upazila of the district.
The incident occurred at a place between platform no 2 and 3 around 9 pm when Banglabandha Express train left Rajshahi Railway Station for Bir Muktijodda Sirajul Islam Station in Panchagarh.
Station Manager Abdul Karim said, around 9 pm on Thursday, some youths were roaming around the platform of the station without tickets. At that time, when the Ansar member asked them to leave, they were locked into an argument.
At one stage, the youths punched Mainul. He fell to the ground and blood came out of his nose and mouth.
Later on, he was taken to the emergency department of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Rajshahi Railway PS OC Gopal Kumar said,  one person has been arrested in this connection, but others managed to flee the scene.
The identity of the arrested youth has not been given, he added.
OC further said, they seem to be local hooligans. It is being investigated what happened there or how Mainul died.  
PATUAKHALI: Two people were killed and 15 others injured after a bus fell into a ditch in Galachipa Uapzila of the district on Thursday.
The incident took place at about 4:30 pm on the Patuakhali-Galachipa regional road near Badura Bazar.
The deceased were identified as Rahat, 20, and Belal, 22, of Gagalia area in the upazila.
Police said, a bus of Imran Paribahan fell into a road-side ditch after its driver had lost control over the steering while trying to give side to another bus, leaving two dead on the spot and 15 others injured.
The injured were taken to hospital, including two of them with critical condition.
Galachipa PS OC Ferdous Alam said, they recovered the bodies.
