Four killed, 20 injured in road mishaps

Four people have been killed and at least 20 others injured in separate road accidents in four districts - Gopalganj, Kushtia, Barishal and Magura, in two days.
GOPALGANJ: An expatriate was killed and at least 17 others were injured in a road accident in Muksudpur Upazila of the district on Sunday noon.
The accident took place at Khandkar Para of Batikamari area on the Muksudpur-Baraitala road under the upazila at around 12 pm.
The deceased was identified as Singapore expatriate Rajib Sheikh, 35, son of Jabbar Sheikh, a resident of Kanuria Village under Dignagar Union in the upazila. His younger brother Rana Sheikh, 25, among others, was also seriously injured in the accident.
According to police sources, deceased Rajib Sheikh and his younger brother Rana Sheikh were going towards Muksudpur Town riding on a motorcycle. On the way, a local bus of Arafat Enterprise from Muksudpur to Baraitala ran over their motorcycle in that area at noon. The motorcycle and the bus fell into a ditch on the side of the road at that time. Rajib Sheikh died on the spot. Rajibs brother Rana Sheikh and at least 16 others of the bus were injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body of the deceased and admitted the injured to hospital after rescuing them.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Muksudpur Police Station (PS) Ashraful Alam confirmed the incident.
DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: A van-puller was killed in a road accident in Daulatpur Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The accident took place in Sonaikundi Government Well area on the Allardarga-Raita road of the upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Jillur Rahman, 58, son of Jamir Uddin Biswas, a resident of Sonaikundi Indara Para Village in the upazila.
Police and local sources said a sand-laden trolley hit a van in the area in the morning, leaving van-puller Jillur seriously injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and took to Bheramara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
However, the law enforcers have seized the killer trolley, but its driver managed to flee the scene.
Daulatpur PS OC Rafiqul Islam confirmed the          incident.
BARISHAL: A student of Barishal Institute of Health Technology was killed and another injured after being hit by a bus in Babuganj Upazila of the district on Saturday night.
Deceased Tajnim Rahman Khan Srabon, 20, son of Saidur Rahman Khan, hailed from Dhanua area in Gazipur District. The injured person is Md Maruf, 20.
Babuganj Fire Service and Civil Defence official Md Shamim Hossain said Srabon along with Maruf was going towards Airport from Rahmatpur Village at night riding on a motorcycle. On the way, a Patuakhali-bound bus of Ilish Paribahan from Dhaka rammed their motorcycle near Rahmatpur Bridge area, which left Srabon dead on the spot and Maruf injured.
Being informed, Fire Service personnel recovered the body and handed it over to Babuganj PS, he said.
Lokman Hossain, inspector of the PS, said police then sent the body to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy and seized the bus.
However, necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the police official added.
MAGURA: A college student was killed and two others were injured after a truck rammed a motorcycle in Sadar Upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The accident took place on the Magura-Jhenaidah Highway in Kashinathpur Chara Bouttala area under the upazila at around 10:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Abir Hasan Arko, 18, a twelfth grader of a local college and son of Lemon Sheikh of Parnanduali Village in the upazila while his injured friends are Mobin, 22, and Jubayer, 19.
Magura Sadar PS OC Mehedi Hasan said the accident occurred when a truck hit a motorcycle carrying the trio coming from the opposite direction, leaving Abir dead on the spot and the two injured. Being informed, police recovered the body.
The injured were shifted to Dhaka from Magura Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
Though the truck was seized but its driver managed to flee the scene, the OC said, adding that a case was filed in this regard.
