The Disciplinary Board (DB) of Dhaka University (DU) has recommended sacking of Md Shamim Hossain, a oken man at the universitys Proctor Office for his involvement in extortion from over 300 makeshift shops installed illegally at different points on the campus.
The DB also asked to investigate again to prove the allegation of extortion against a few Proctorial Mobile Team members.
The recommendation came at a DB meeting on Monday.
It will probably be passed in the next Syndicate meeting, said a DB source. Perhaps a new probe committee will be formed too in the meeting, said the source.
Following a report published on the Daily Observer on February 26 last year, the university authorities evicted all illegally shops and formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the allegation of extortion.
The probe body found Shamim leading the party to extort from the campus shops and a few other Proctorial Mobile Team members helping Shamim to collect money from the shops.
Later on the university authorities suspended Shamim and issued separate notices to six team members asking them to explain as to why they should not be punished.
Contacted, Proctor Prof M Maksudur Rahman said the authorities are observing the matter closely.
