A Rajshahi court sentenced a drug dealer to life imprisonment on charge of his involvement in drug business in the district.
The court also fined him Taka 20,000, in default, he will have to suffer one month more in jail.
The convict is Muhammad Mithu alias Rana, 25, a resident of Harishankerpur village under Godagari upazila in the district.
Rajshai Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 Abul Kalam Azad found the convict guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict in the afternoon.
According to the prosecution story, in brief, a police team arrested Rana with 500 grams of heroin from Roypara area under Kasiadanga Police Station in the metropolis on January 25, 2022.
Subsequently, a case was lodged with the police station. Upon completion of investigation police pressed charges accusing him on April 31, 2022.
After examining recorded depositions of the enlisted prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the court handed down the verdict.
