Road mishaps claim six lives in five districts

Six people including a schoolboy were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in five districts- Lalmonirhat, Dinajpur, Bagerhat, Barishal, and Sherpur, on Sunday and Monday.
LALMONIRHAT: Two people were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in Patgram Upazila of the district in two days.
A man was killed and another injured after being hit by a truck in the upazila on Monday.
The accident took place in Ufarmara Ghunti area under Burimari Union at around 11 am.
The deceased was identified as Aminur Rahman, 30, son of Abdur Rahim, a resident of Kollatari Village under Burimari Union.
The injured person is: Md Motizul, 40.  
Police sources said Aminur Rahman was going to Ghunti Bazar from the house riding on Motizuls motorcycle. On the way, a Lalmonirhat-bound sand-laden truck from Burimari hit the motorcycle in Ufarmara Ghunti area, leaving pillion rider Aminur dead on the spot and motorcyclist Motizul critically injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceaseds family members after completing legal procedures.
The injured was rescued and admitted to Patgram Upazila Health Complex.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatibandha Highway Police Station (PS) SM Arif Ullah confirmed the incident.
Earlier, a young man was killed after being crushed under his tractor in the upazila on Sunday noon.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam Azad, 23, son of Hamidul Haque, a resident of Lakhyanath Kamat area of Panbari Village under Kuchlibari Union in the upazila.
Police and local sources said Abul Kalam Azad was returning home after cultivating a cropland at Pabnapara of Panbari with his tractor at noon. On the way, the tractor overturned after losing its control over the steering, which left him seriously injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and rushed to Patgram Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
CHIRIRBANDAR, DINAJPUR: A schoolboy was killed after being hit by a motorcycle in Chirirbandar Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
The accident took place in front of Sonali Bank at Binyakuri Bazar under Isabpur Union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Rakib, 13, grandson of Khairat Hossain of Noyapara Village of Boro Hashimpur in the upazila. He was a sixth grader at Boro Hashimpur High School.
Local sources said Rakib came to visit his maternal grandparents house. He went to attend a Waaz Mahfil on Moraidanga Field from there. While returning, a speedy motorcycle coming from the opposite direction hit Rakib in front of Sonali Bank at Binyakuri Bazar under Isabpur Union, which left him critically injured.
Injured Rakib was then rescued and taken to Chirirbandar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Chirirbandar PS OC (Investigation) Jakir Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed in this regard.
RAMPAL, BAGERHAT: A van-puller was killed in a road accident in Rampal Upazila of the district on Sunday noon.
The accident took place in Malidanga area on the Khulna-Mongla highway of the upazila at around 2 pm.
The deceased was identified as Md Talim Sarder, 30, son of Md Fazlu Sarder, a resident of Sreekals area under Rampal Sadar Union in the upazila.
It was known that Talim was heading towards Bhaga Bazar from Zero Point area at noon riding on his van. On the way, a speedy mahindra (local vehicle) coming from the opposite direction hit the van in Malidanga area, leaving Talim seriously injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and rushed him to Rampal Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead by the on-duty doctor.
Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceaseds family members after completion of the legal procedures.
However, the mahindra driver managed to flee the scene along with his vehicle soon after the accident.
Katakhali Highway PS OC Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter.
BARISHAL: An elderly man was killed after being hit by a motorcycle in Wazirpur Upazila of the district on Sunday noon.
The accident took place in Joysree Bandar area on the Dhaka-Barishal highway of the upazila at around 12 pm.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim Sarder, 65, son of late Cherag Ali Sarder, a resident of Joysree Village in the upazila.
Local sources said a motorcycle hit Abdul Karim in the area at noon while he was crossing the Dhaka-Barishal highway, which left him critically injured.
Injured Abdul Karim was rescued and taken to Wazirpur Upazila Health Complex first, and then, he was shifted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Wazirpur Model PS OC Md Jafar Ahmed confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
SHERPUR: A carpenter was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Jhenaigati Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
The accident took place in Tetultala Bazar of the upazila at around 7:30 am.
The deceased was identified as Khorshed Alam, 40, son of Julhas Uddin, a resident of Bakakura Village under the upazila.
The injured persons are: CNG driver Billal, 35, son of Saiful Islam of Shaldha Village; and pedestrian Abdul Kadir, hailed from Sylhet and a teacher of Jhulgaon Madrasa.
Police and local sources said a truck coming from the opposite direction hit a passenger-laden CNG at Tetultala Bazar of the upazila in the morning, leaving its passenger Khorshed dead on the spot.
Two people including the CNG driver were also injured at that time.
Being informed, police recovered the body of the deceased.
The injured were rescued and admitted to Sherpur Sadar Hospital.
However, the law enforcers have seized the killer truck, but its driver and his helper managed to flee the scene.
Sub-Inspector of Jhenaigati PS Razib Bhowmik confirmed the incident, adding that police are trying to detain the truck driver and necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
