Just 110 days after arrest,  BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas was freed from jail custody on Monday evening on bail in 11 cases filed on October 28 over the partys scheduled rally.

He walked out of Dhaka Central Jail at  Keraniganj at around 6.50 pm after the bail order reached the jail authorities, Senior Acting Jail Superintendent Suvas Kumar Ghose, told the Daily Observer.

At that time his wife Afroza Abbas, also BNPs women wing Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal president and BNP leader Nipun Roy Chowdhury along with huge number of city leaders and activists received him with bouquet at the jail gate.

On Monday a Dhaka court granted bail to Mirza Abbas in a case filed with Dhaka Railway police station. Dhaka Judicial Magistrate Julhash Uddin passed the bail order.

Mirza Abbas has been granted bail in all the 11 cases on alleged violence over the partys rally scheduled for October 28.

Of the 11 cases, five were filed with Paltan Model Police Station, four with Ramna Model Police Station, one with Shahjahanpur Police Station and one with Dhaka Railway Police Station.

The charges in the last 11 cases include killing  a police constable, illegal gathering on the street, vandalising vehicles, rioting, snatching a polices weapon, damaging properties, assaulting police personnel and preventing them from discharging their duties.

On Sunday, Mirza Abbas got bail in a case of vandalism filed with Ramna Model police station.

Detective Branch (DB) police arrested Mirza Abbas from Shahidbagh in the capital in a case of sabotage filed on the night of October 31.

On November 1, a Dhaka court allowed the police to take Abbas on remand for five days, after which he was sent to jail custody.

On January 21, a High Court bench directed the Chief Metropolitan Magistrates Court in Dhaka to accept, hear and dispose of the bail petitions of Mirza Abbas in connection with the cases after hearing a writ petition filed challenging the legality of a magistrate courts refusal to accept his bail petitions.

He was later arrested in another case filed with the Dhaka Railway Police Station.  He has been in jail custody since then.
