The manufacturers and rice trading companies must have to mention the manufacturing date, price and variety of rice and manufacturers information on rice sacks being supplied in the markets from April 14 this year as per the "Production, Storage, Transfer, Transport, Supply, Distribution and Marketing (Prevention of Harmful Activities) of Food Products Act, 2023".
The Ministry of Food on Tuesday issued a directive saying the variety of rice, weight, price, production date and manufacturers information must be written on rice sacks and asked the authorities and traders to follow the directives properly.
Ministrys Secretary Ismiel Hossain issued the directives and sent to the offices to relevant food issues.
It said that the directives will be effective from April 14.
Earlier, the Ministry has finalized the rules for implementing the Production, Storage, Transfer, Transport, Supply, Distribution and Marketing (Prevention of Harmful Activities) of Food Products Act.
The directive states that after visiting various rice-producing districts throughout the country, the ministry found that rice produced from the same variety of paddy is being sold under different names and prices.
