A Rajbari court sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for killing her husband at Baliakandi upazila in the district in 2012.
At the same time, she has been fined Tk 20,000, in default, she will have to suffer one year more in jail.
Rajbari District Senior Sessions Judge Mosammat Zakia Parveen handed down the verdict on Wednesday (February 28) afternoon.
The convict is Shahida Begum, wife of late Ashraf Sana, hailed from Bangkur village of Baliakandi.
The Court Public Prosecutor (PP) Wazir Ali Sheikh confirmed it.
According to the prosecution, Ashraf Sana used to live in Kalaroa in Satkhira with his second wife. On December 1, 2012, he came to his first wife Shahida Begum's house in Bangkur village of Baliakandi in Rajbari and demanded money. Then he beat his wife saying that he would sell the house if she could not pay money. Both of them had an argument over this. On December 4, Ashnaf Sana went to beat his wife Shahida Begum with an iron rod. At that time, Shahida Begum grabbed the rod from her husband's hand and hit his head. Ashraf Sana died on the spot.
In the incident, the victim's son sued the mother as the plaintiff.
