The students of Islamic University (IU) on Monday morning formed a sit-in programme to protest against indiscriminate cutting down of trees at its campus.

IU Chhatra Union unit, Deep Ecology and Snake Conservation Foundation, and many others students formed the sit-in programme seperately.
They alleged that the authorities of the university indiscriminately cut down several trees in between two academic buildings of the university to build ‘Boishakhi Mancha’.

In response of questioning, IU chief engineer AKM Sharif Uddin said they were instructed by the authorities of the university and they are not able to do anything without their (authority) instructions.
