Natore Jubo League leader held for 'bid to rape' housewife

A Jubo League leader has been arrested on charge of attempt to rape a housewife at Lalpur in Natore district.

Ripon Ali was arrested by police after a case was filed against him at Lalpur Police Station in the district on Monday (March 4) night.
Arrested Ripon is the son of Nurul Islam of village Dohorshoila under Lalpur upazila and upazila Jubo League member.

However, Ripon denied the allegation of attempt to  rape the woman.

He alleged that a conspiracy was hatched to humiliate him centering the next union parishad election. A trifle issue is being made bigger.

The woman who filed the case at the police station said on February 29 last that Ripon had tried to rape her when she was returning home at night after working with her husband at their shop. Ripon fled away when locals throng to the place hearing her shouting.

Earlier, Ripon had given immoral proposals to the woman at different times, the woman also alleged.

Local UP member Sahabul Alam said they were trying to settle the matter over the last couple of days.

Lalpur Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Nasim Ahmed said Ripon was arrested after conducting raid following a case lodged by the victim woman. Arrested Ripon was sent to court on Tuesday morning.
