A student died from
electrocution while hanging the national flag in his school at Kadamtali area in the
capital on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place around 9am at Polashpur Ideal School under Kadamtali Police Station.
The victim was Riyan Badsha, 15, hailed from Bongram village under Trishal upazila in Mymensingh district. He was a ninth grader of the school.
The supervisor of the school Rashed Khan said an employee of the school was hanging the national flag around 10 am. At that time, the rope of flag got knotted and stuck on the miday. Seeing this Badsha came forward to help the employee.
"Badsha was hanging the flag by untying the rope attached to a steel pole. At that time the flag pole tilted and came in contact with a electric wire, leaving him critically injured.
He then took the victim to a private hospital first and then, rushed takent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead around 12pm.
Meanwhile, family members of the victim alleged that Badsha died due to the negligence of the school authority and also demanded justice upon proper investigation.
Bacchu Mia, inspector of the medical college hospital outpost, confirmed the matter, adding that the body was kept at the hospital morgue and they informed the concerned police station.
